Your pets are in safe hands
Envision the feeling of spending time with a cherished friend you haven’t seen in a long time. The wide smile on your face. The warmth in your heart. The giddy, bubble up of excitement of being together. This is the response I want to elicit from your pets during my stay.
As a team (you, your non-human family member and I) we co-create an environment of support, comfort and serenity. When the time comes for the stay, my presence is something that’s looked forward to. Exactly as we designed it.
Hi, I’m Bec
At the age of three, I started begging (dare I say *imploring*) my parents for a dog. Each gift-giving event was awaited with great anticipation. At the age of 5, my parents got me a stuffed puppet racoon (her name is Cythia, and yes, I still have her) . It was then I realized my begging was for naught. I decided to give up. A few years later my parents decided that a cat would do, so we adopted our neighbor’s cat. Unfortunately, Sunshine was diagnosed with feline leukemia and he didn’t last very long. (FYI, This was before 1984 when the feline leukemia vaccine was developed.)
After Sunshine came Butterscotch, whom we affectionately called Bubs. Bubs put up with *a lot*, most likely because he knew how much we loved him. While Bubs ruled our home, I started working for a Golden Retriever Breeder and a veterinarian. Animals, both wild and domesticated, would fall in my path. Much to my parent’s chagrin, I would find myself taking home a bird that had fallen out of its nest or an abandoned furry thing that needed care. It was my imperative. (ask me about Pablo the carrier pigeon for a good story)
For almost 50 years now, I’ve had at least one finned, furred or feathered animal to call my very own. By working for veterinary clinics, kennels, shelters, wild animal rehabilitators and farm sanctuaries I have kept animals close to my heart.
Now, I’ve been fortunate enough to incorporate my connection with animals into a thriving pet and home care business. I get the opportunity to interact with and meet incredible animals and their outstanding human family members. Those human family members and their animals get the benefit of my years of experience and the wisdom and knowledge I delight in sharing. In my mind, it’s a win-win.
Animal Experience
With over 40 years of diverse animal care experience, I am confident in my ability to provide exceptional care for your home and beloved pets. My journey in the animal care industry has been extensive, including working at boarding facilities, volunteering at no kill shelters, and assisting at open placement centers. I have also pursued advanced animal care courses, covering topics such as wildlife care and general animal behavior, further expanding my knowledge and skills. In addition, I have firsthand experience in grooming and showing my own Golden Retrievers while I simultaneously worked as a veterinarian assistant. Even during my high school years, I successfully owned and operated an in-home pet care business. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside a Wildlife Rehabber and reside on a Farm Animal Sanctuary in the scenic Hudson Valley. This invaluable experience has allowed me to gain hands-on expertise with a wide range of animals, including birds of prey, small mammals, and various farm animals. My passion for serving these humble beings is boundless, and I am eager to bring my expertise and dedication to ensuring the well-being of your treasured pets.
Buddhist Background
My journey into meditation began unexpectedly when I served as an interpreter for an individual being ordained as a Buddhist priest. This experience introduced me to the practice of meditation, which I had previously no explored. My first experience meditating was engaged in a full day of meditation, interspersed with periods of slow, meditative walking. It was a truly remarkable and transformative experience that has profoundly influenced me for the past thirteen years. Since then, meditation has become an integral part of my daily life, as I strive to embody the core principles of Zen Buddhism. Over the past 15 years, my commitment to the path of Zen Buddhism has deepened my understanding of the profound interconnection among all sentient beings. This understanding has instilled in me a deep respect for animals and a humble approach to life. When I am entrusted with the care of your home, I treat it with the same level of care and attention as if it were my own. Many of my clients have expressed their satisfaction with the state of their homes upon their return, as my commitment to providing exemplary care shines through in every aspect of my service.
